Pirate Ship
The Ferry
The ferry is captained by Asme-Shura and her crew. Asme-shura resembles a sunflower and speaks like sunshine. She is deathly afraid of water; thus she keeps her ferry in top shape at all times and regularly drills her crew. Her crew are a motley bunch, five total excluding Asme-Shura, and are representative of the many cultures and peoples which mix within the kingdom. She and her crew are some of the most experienced sailors in the kingdom, and each is deathly loyal to the other.
Their ferry is large enough to carry up to 20 people, not including themselves, or roughly 2 teams of oxen. The river they ferry people and goods across is wide enough to have its own islands, even during flood seasons. It takes a full turn of travel to span the river.
The Pirate
Whenever you want, roll a D6. On a 1-2, a pirate will "attack" the ferry. The pirate is Asme-Shura's brother, Amaga. He looks considerably older than his sister, more like a worn mountain than anything else. The "ship" he "captains" is barely big enough for him.
As he approaches, he will call out to "Lady Yellow" to take the party for all their worth. "Lady Yellow", Asme-Shura, will give the loudest, longest sigh ever uttered by anyone before asking the party to play along. She will pull a brush on the party like it is a knife and loudly, dramatically demand the party give up their "gold, silver, and other valuables". The party can hand her anything, as long as they hand her something.
If the party plays along, Amaga will cheer and encourage his sister in her piracy, calling for her to throw her the loot to stow away on his island. She'll put the party's items in a bag, switch it with a different bag, then have one of her crew throw or fling it out to Amaga. Asme-Shura will continue in dramatic fashion to threaten and attack the party, along with her crew, until her brother is out of sight, upon which she will apologize profusely and let the party know they will get a refund for what they paid for her ferry service.
Aftermath
If the party asks questions, she'll explain the following:
- She and Amaga the pirate are siblings - she the younger, he the older
- Amaga was once a captain of a warship of the kingdom before his mind began to slip
- Amaga is largely harmless, living in a surreal world of his glory days in the navy
- The island Amaga lives on is regularly visited by Asme-Shura and her crew, to make sure any valuables can be returned to her passengers, as well as to check in on Amaga
She will not take the party to Amaga's island.
The island is small and easily traversed, with a small, scattered forest on it. Amaga's "camp" is the only noticeable feature of the island, and his boat is tied at the shore.
If the party travels to Amaga's island by other means after the ferry, there is a 1-in-6 chance Asme-Shura and her crew will be there. They will be very unhappy with the party and may resort to violence if Amaga is threatened or the party is found stealing from his stuff. They are equipped with whatever is appropriate to your setting for high-quality sailors to have.
If Asme-Shura and her crew are not there, Amaga will be found alone, muttering to himself as he sorts through the party's "goods" that were thrown overboard to him. The bag contains food, clothes, and other necessities. There are no valuables in the bag, unless the party actually gave up valuables. His camp has a smoldering fire, a simple tent, and some other bare necessities scattered about.
Amaga will not part with his loot; he will put his life on the line to protect it. If the party decides to fight him, he fights as a level 1 fighter for your setting. If the party kill Amaga, Asme-Shura and her crew will discover his death within 1d6 days. If the party leave some way of being identified, Asme-Shura and her crew will hunt the party down to kill them in revenge.
