Nurglings [Creature]

NURGLINGS

A nurgling is a small, unkempt, pale sprite which feeds off of annoyance. Humanoids have the greatest potential for annoyance, making them the most common victims. A nurgling will creep into camp during the night, little more than a flicking shadow against firelight. They are prone to rust metals, dull edges, spoil rations, spook animals, and other generally annoying things.

You broke camp, traveled a few hours, and now, in the middle of nowhere, you pack strap just broke, spilling it’s contents. Was that just unlucky or a nurgling?

Nurgling are incredibly shy creatures, dying if looked upon. As such, they are masters of stealth and difficult to spot on all but the brightest of nights. They will not leave their victim while there is annoyance to feast upon. The best option is to remain calm; not ā€œgrinning on the outside, foaming at the mouth on the insideā€, but actual calm. Given they simply eat emotional output, you can’t fake it.

Evidence of a nurgling is a far too long string of unfortunate events, often coupled with increased hostility or aggression from a party member or yourself towards others. Once the finger pointing starts from pent up frustration, and now two humanoids are annoyed instead of just one, the emotional output begins attracting other nurgling.

It is a viciously annoying downward spiral.
