Creeping Mangral [Creature]

Creeping Mangral

A creeping mangral looks like a stunted mangrove tree, with long, spider-like roots and leafy branches. They are often present among creeping mangrove forests which crawl across the barren salt flats in search of water. They use their resemblance to the tree as camouflage and the shade of the taller, actual mangroves to keep them cool. Most of the time it moves at the speed of the forest.

However, when prey comes into the forest, it is capable of great bursts of speed. It is an ambush predator, capable of covering nearly any kind of terrain in a sudden rush upon its prey. The only warning is a great rustle of leaves where there is no wind. It uses its long roots to spear its prey to the ground and a larger, single root to feed. It feeds on liquids, not meat, and will drain its helpless victim over time, using its other roots to crawl with the forest. In this way, it keeps itself hydrated in the long journeys across the flats. All it leaves behind is a drained corpse.
