Clouds Bar Me From Heaven [Flats Barbarian] (v.1)
This class is largely a conglomeration of the following classes:
- https://coinsandscrolls.blogspot.com/2017/09/osr-class-barbarians.html
- https://github.com/valzi/GLOG-classes/wiki/Martial_Barbarian-Magnificentophat
This is version 1. I hope to produce a few more iterations as the rest of the ideas (and maybe some playtesting) fall into place around it.

Skills: Flatlore, Pattern-Recognition, Quarry-Harvesting
- As long as the sun, moon, or stars are visible, you do not need to eat or sleep. You must eat and sleep on cloudy days or when underground.
- You suffer no banes from natural phenomena. You can move as quickly on natural walls as you can walking.
- You cannot lose your way when traveling the flats, provided a celestial body is visible or there are two or more landmarks in view. You can discern the weather for the following day and the tracks of any creature which has passed through in the last two days.
- You are a celestiatic and suffer from bouts of blind rage. You worship the sun, moon, and stars. These are your longest-standing guardians. As long as you are under their light you may Save vs Rage to withstand provocation to rage. If you are not under their light, you rage at the following provocations:
- seeing blood spilled
- being attacked
- difficulties/frustrations interacting with those from human or human-adjacent cultures
- coming under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- thunderstorms and rain
- Your rage cannot end until the provocations have ceased. You may Save against Rage if the sun, moon, or stars come out. When enraged, you may make two attacks in a turn and are immune to pain, fear, and charms; your speed doubles; and you cannot do anything defensive, curative, or tactical. Additionally, while enraged, you gain a boon from your ultimate prey (the most fearsome beast you've killed in solo combat):
d6 | Beast & Effect |
---|---|
1 | Crust crab - your hands strengthen, able to break bones by squeezing |
2 | Saltworm - you gain a burrowing speed equal to your walking speed |
3 | Brine drake - you can spew boiling water in a 10-ft. cone in front of you |
4 | Creeping mangral - your bite deals 1d6 damage and heals you for the damage inflicted |
5 | Crocodile - your skin hardens, providing +1d6 armor |
6 | Funnel spider - your teeth inject paralyzing poison into anyone you bite |
- You are an Outsider. Civilization is generally suspicious or fearful of you. Being an Outsider has its blessings and curses. Roll or choose two blessings and three curses from the following tables:
d6 | Blessings |
---|---|
1 | You can speak to animals and they treat you kindly. |
2 | You can sleep anywhere, in any circumstance, and be well rested. |
3 | You are a master orator and know epics and poems lost to time. |
4 | You are an expert in one of the following subjects: astronomy, botany, zoology; other experts in the field recognize you as one of them. |
5 | You can identify those skilled with a weapon at a glance. |
6 | You are able to smell someone's emotions while you hear their voice. |
d6 | Curses |
---|---|
1 | You are afraid of closed spaces and large groups. |
2 | You are oblivious to local customs or laws and assume everyone operates as you do. |
3 | You do not understand societal hierarchies. |
4 | You are easily enticed by the temptations of civilization. |
5 | You cannot remember names or faces. |
6 | You cannot comprehend lying or falsehood. |
