Basics & Skills
Basics
Players roll 3d6 / 3 (rounding down) to determine their starting stats.
Stat | Bonus/Malus |
---|---|
1 | -2 |
2 | -1 |
3 | 0 |
4 | 0 |
5 | +1 |
6 | +2 |
When attempting to do things, the players roll 2d6, trying to beat a 7. In most instances, 7 is the number to beat.
Skills
Characters start with three Skills - two from their background and one from their role. They have just become their role; they have been their background for much longer. Because of this, one background skill starts at Adept; the other two start at Novice.
Skills progress through four tiers. Each tier providing a bonus to rolls related to that skill.
Tier | Title | Bonus |
---|---|---|
0 | Novice | +1 |
1 | Adept | +1d3 |
2 | Expert | +1d6 |
3 | Master | +2d6 |
To progress through a tier, the skill must determine the success of the roll a prerequisite number of times. Players add their skill bonus last in the calculation.
For example, if a player rolls a 7 on 2d6 and is a Novice, the result becomes an 8. The skill was the determining factor in success or failure. The player then makes a mark, keeping track of the number of successes until they advance to the next tier.
Progression | # of Successes |
---|---|
Novice -> Adept | 3 |
Adept -> Expert | 2 |
Expert -> Master | 2 |
Inspiration
My all-time favorite skill progression in a GLOG-hack comes from the Sludge GLOG or "SLOG" from https://caput-caprae.blogspot.com. Theirs is simple yet robust, and I sought to mimic it, albeit changed to my eventual hack.
